Toner

Many years ago I used to use Clinique toner, which I loved. Then my husband lost his job, and I looked for a more frugal substitute. I had heard that witch hazel worked well as a toner. I tried it, and it worked pretty well but I didn't like how it smelled. I said it made me smell like steak tartar, but that was a lie because I've never smelled steak tartar. I've never even seen steak tartar. But I didn't like how it smelled none the less.

My solution to this problem is to buy the cheapest store brand toner I can find and to mix about two ounces of it to about eight ounces of the witch hazel. (I don't measure, I just eyeball it in the bottle I refill.) It makes the toner smell good and gives a more refreshing feel.

Oh, and one more thing: witch hazel is cheaper in the first aid aisle than it is in the beauty/skin care aisle.

There is my frugal tip for today!

I was telling my kids about witch hazel. They couldn't believe that was the name of an actual product! I'm going to try your tip--I would have gone through the exact same process of using witch hazel straight. I wonder if you mixed it with a little water? Would that help? I guess it would still steak tartarish.

I meant to say it would still *smell* steak tartarish.
